Special offer to all clients - a free protection review
Odd, your financial advisers suggesting something for nothing? You’ll doubtless be thinking even a free protection review could cost you, and perhaps it would. Perhaps it should. But bear two things in mind.
A review could reduce spending.
- A protection failure could be catastrophic for you or – far worse, perhaps – your loved ones.
To summarise the situation, there are three principal forms of protection.
- Life cover, which at your death protects your family through some form of payment.
- Critical illness cover, which protects your ability to live in the event of a specific major illness, usually by means of a lump sum.
- Income protection, which protects your standard of living during a period of illness: payments are usually deferred for a time, then made until a specified age that is reflected in the level of your premiums.
Some people have all of the above. Shockingly many have none. If you doubt your own need, answer a simple question:
What would happen to me or my family IF......?
The answer may not be as bad as it seems. There are various positions in which you could find yourself, such as:
You have no cover, so you and/or your family risk destitution, loss of home etc.
- You have double cover: e.g. you are covered by your employer against a risk for which you have needlessly taken out a private policy. (Thompson philosophy is to help you keep as much of your money as possible!)
- You have the wrong cover, so possibly the wrong premium: maybe too high – maybe too low!
- You have the right cover – but maybe we can find cheaper policies to do the same job.
- You have little or no cover and you have children and a mortgage, but you are a two income family and think you have an income to spare. Beware! This can be a most dangerous delusion!
As it’s so easy to check your position, why not?

You could gain. If you’re willing to think long term, you can’t lose. Not bad odds...
