One Water – the ethical choice
BBC documentary Liquid Gold – airing at 9.00 pm tonight on BBC2 – examines the phenomenal growth of the multi-billion pound bottled water industry from Perrier to Dasani and beyond, assessing the health and lifestyle messaging communicated to consumers, the debate over bottled and tap water, and the future for the industry.
Part of that debate focuses on One Water, the non-profit ethical bottled water brand created by Global Ethics Limited.
Managing Director and Founder of Global Ethics and The One Foundation, Duncan Goose comments: “Many bottled water brands have been incredibly successful over the years, however the issues of sustainable packaging, water miles and health benefits are frequently debated and the pressure is justifiably on for brands to do the right thing. One Water is leading the way forward for the bottled water industry – by turning purchasing decisions into a positive for the wider world.
“We aim to focus our efforts where the need is greatest and where we can have the most impact. For every bottle sold, One Water helps to provide a constant supply of clean, safe drinking water to Africa’s poorest communities, a simple step which has transformed the lives of many – in fact over a million people have been supplied with a free, clean, sustainable water supply as a result of One Water’s efforts to install unique roundabout powered water pumps, called PlayPumps.
“The global bottled water market is predicted to be 174,286 million litres in 2011, if all water brands donated the equivalent of just 0.1p per litre this would provide £174,286,000 (£174 million) a year to help alleviate the problem of over a billion people in the world not having access to clean water.”
If you can’t watch the programme tonight, why not watch it on BBC iPlayer tomorrow?
